HEALTHY EATING

Healthy Eating

A positive approach to healthy diets

We believe that it is extremely important to promote a healthy lifestyle which will help your child on their way to live a long and healthy life. Diet and exercise are key elements within our healthy lifestyle policy. We recognise the positive effects of drinking water nutrition and exercise on children’s well-being and the importance this has on their development. We provide freshly prepared home cooked food which encourages the children to make healthy choices and experience a broad range of different foods and tastes. We also give due consideration to special diets including children who require a separate menu due to medical, cultural or for allergy reasons. We provide alternative food and personalised menus for children with dietary requirements. We include food as part of the curriculum and the staff will discuss with the children about the foods origin, ingredients and its preparation at mealtimes.

Baby Unit: A light breakfast comprising of either cereals or porridge and fruit is served. Lunch consist of a two course hot meal and afternoon High Tea is a two course tea.

Nursery/Pre-school: Mid-morning snack / Lunch consist of a two course hot meal / Afternoon two course High Tea

Throughout the day the children have opportunity to select fresh water or milk. Our meals are planned over a four week rota and are updated every six months. When planning menus, we consider feedback from parents, staff and children but also to source products which are local, fresh and seasonal. Our menus are displayed in reception displaying any allergens for all to see. We strive to achieve the balance of providing meals that children enjoy with nutritional value, with minimal use of sugar and other additives like salt. A minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables are available each day.

FIVE STAR FOOD HYGIENE RATING

The highest rating you can get from the environmental health team.

We obtain our five star rating from when we took over Inwood Nursery in 2012 and have been consistent ever since. The rating is based on an announced inspection from an environmental health officer, who reviews our systems and processes as well as the actual practice of our cook and staff.
